Dear Parents & Students,

In order to guarantee an excellent learning climate for your child and all students, I will be utilizing the following Classroom Discipline Plan and Grading System.

My Philosophy

I believe that all of my students can behave appropriately in the classroom, at recess, and during school-related activities. I will not tolerate a student stopping me from teaching, nor will I allow anyone to prevent any of my students from learning.

Rules

Students need to follow the six Character Counts traits at all times:

Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship

Rewards

Students who behave appropriately will be positively rewarded with:

Verbal Praise, "positive" marks on their behavior card, Special Privileges, and classroom reinforcers to promote cooperation and good behavior as a whole.

Consequences

If a student makes the decision to break a rule, the following consequences will apply:

1st time: Verbal warning, 2nd time: Negative on behavior chart, 3rd time: Negative and lunch detention, Severe Disruption: Principal's Office.

Assignments:

All assignments are to be completed by the student, and turned in on time.

Assignments that are submitted one day late will have a 10% deduction from the final grade.

If an assignment is two or more days late, there will be a 25% deduction.

If the student can give the teacher a written note from a parent with an acceptable reason for assignment's tardiness, and extension may be given.

Late assignments will be accepted in the quarter in which they are due.

Late points will not be taken off of Absent work, as long as the student completes it in as many days as he/she was absent. (Sick 4 days, 4 days to complete work.) Please write "absent" on the top of these assignments.

Assignment Planners

Each child has an Assignment Planner. We fill these out daily with our class assignments as well as any homework assignments.

The student needs a parent signature each night. This shows me that you, the parent, have been made aware of homework for that night. Students are allowed to have their Planner unsigned one night each week.  The second night it is unsigned will result in a Negative mark.   Sometimes I will jot notes to you in the planner, and you can feel free to do the same for me. This is an effective communication tool.

Progress Reports

Progress Reports will be sent home at the midterm and the week prior to the end of the quarter.

Missing Assignments

Using your child's PowerSchool account is a great way to track and stay on top of any missing/late assignments your child may have.  See Mrs. Hunter in the office for your log-in and password if you do not have that.  Missing/late work can be turned in for credit during the quarter in which it was due, but will suffer point deductions because of lateness. (This does not apply to work made up from an absence!)
